About Us

Awakening Through Art is committed to bringing art and healing  together to increase awareness and social change in our community. We encourage creative expression as a form of emotional release to promote  positive growth, well-being and empowerment.  

Mer Zandifar and Eric Brown are the co-founders and facilitators of Awakening Through Art. They bring their diverse backgrounds and enthusiasm for art, drumming and holistic health to the community.



Mer Zandifar is a Certified Hypnotherapist, Reiki practitioner and art educator with over ten years of  experience studying spiritual, therapeutic and meditative techniques from around the world. Mer holds a BA degree in Psychology and Holistic Health and is enrolled in a MA program in Counseling Psychology and Holistic Studies. She has worked in schools and group homes as a teacher and youth counselor, and lectures as a guest speaker at San Francisco State University and Shanti LifeLines Breast Cancer Program. In her private practice, Mer integrates drumming, energy medicine and shamanic traditions in working with people who face challenges such as depression, anxiety, life transitions and creative blocks. Mer incorporates her eclectic approach to uniting people with creative energy into Awakening Through Art.

Eric Brown is a Certified Holistic Life Coach, Reiki Master and Healing Touch Practitioner with a focus on  personal development and spiritual growth. Eric has worked as a hospice volunteer and has given lectures on  mindfulness and meditation in addiction recovery groups and at San Francisco State University. In addition,  Eric has worked as a professional photographer as well as a rock climbing and in-line skating instructor for  children and adults. Eric integrates his 14 years of martial arts training and passion for art, music and dance  into Awakening Through Art workshops. Currently, Eric has a private Life Coaching practice in San Francisco  and provides telephone and internet coaching globally.
